The Great West Way isn’t just about hiking, biking and daytime attractions - although there’s an exhilarating abundance of those. We like to put on our finery and head out for the evening too...
You’ll soon discover that food and drink are a big part of the nightlife scene in this part of the country. We love dining out, which means you’ll be able to savour a nice meal whether you’re staying in a big city or a tiny village. Contemporary British café bars, Indian fine dining restaurants, global street food night markets… they’re all here.
Then of course there are the pubs and bars. No visit to England is complete without a visit to a cosy country pub for a pint of local ale. But there’s also some great gastropubs, trendy gin bars, exclusive wine bars and even top secret speakeasies. Cheers to that!
But evening entertainment along the Great West Way isn’t all about eating and drinking. You can settle in for a chortle at a stand-up comedy gig. Catch a film at The Pound Arts Centre. Go to a late night museum opening. Watch a contemporary circus performance. Enjoy award-winning theatre, opera, ballet and more. And let’s not forget the music scene - at venues up and down the Great West Way you’ll find a never ending of programme of live acts, encompassing genres as diverse as rock, metal, folk, country, classical, jazz, dancehall and drum and bass. From the pubs to the concert halls and clubs, there’s much to get your toes tapping.
You could also go for a wild card activity…. science talks in pubs, drawing clubs in bars, expressive dance classes, book readings, dog fashion shows and other quirky events yet to cross your mind. Check out our evening entertainment guide, See & Do, our 'What's On' search and keep your eyes peeled for events in local newspapers and on websites such as Eventbrite.
