Very few know that In 1816, Mary Shelley wrote much of the world’s first science fiction novel, Frankenstein, while living in Bath.

Extending over four atmospheric floors, Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein is an award winning, multi-sensory visitor museum where visitors will be immersed in Shelley’s unconventional tragic life and the lasting legacy of her infamous creation.

Bursting with unusual artefacts, ominous soundtracks, bespoke smells and special effects, we also present an 8ft animatronic breathing creature, authentically reproduced for the first time exactly as Mary Shelley described.

The House also features two rooms dedicated to popular culture, an intimate screening room showing the first ever Frankenstein film from 1910, a Frankenstein-themed Escape Room, The Body In A Suitcase immersive game and, for the braver visitor, a thrilling horror walkthrough experience in the basement.

Experience Options for Travel Trade 

Tour Operators and Group Organisers
- Receive free admission to the main House & 10% of all retail purchases. 

Guided Tours – 1-hour exclusive tour of the house featuring detailed facts and insights about Mary Shelley.
- Maximum of 6 guests per tour. 2 sessions per day on selected days.
- Following the tour guests are free to explore the house at their leisure. 

House Visits – Self Guided 
- Groups of 15 guests can enter every 15 minutes.  We can accommodate groups of 30+ and a maximum of 70. We will require these guests to be batched into smaller groups upon entry. 

Victor’s Lair Escape Room – Including House Admission 
- Victor’s Lair Escape Room holds up to a maximum of 7 individuals per 1 hour session. Larger groups are accommodated by exploring the house whilst others participate in the Escape Room and then swap over. 

The Body In A Suitcase Game – Including House Admission 
- Maximum number of participants per 45-minute session is 7. Larger groups are accommodated by exploring the house whilst others participate in The Body In A Suitcase Game and then swap over. 

The Body In A Suitcase Game – No House Admission 
Maximum number of participants per 45-minute session is 7.

Accessibility Information:

Mary Shelley's House of Frankenstein is situated in a Grade II listed town house spread over four split-level floors. Movement between the floors is via multiple low-rise stairwells, short-steps and wide landings. While we have made every possible permitted intervention to the property to maximise physical access, regrettebly due to the historic nature and layout of the property, we are currently unable to accommodate buggies, prams or wheelchairs.
